Arabic manuscript on gazelle skin, approximately 330 leaves, 16 lines to the page written in fine minute naskh script on a silver ground, 4 double pages with fine border illumination in colours and gold, margins ruled in blue, green and gold, illuminated floral devices in the margins, commentary in minute shikasteh script in black on gold panels with foliate edging in colours, surah headings in red on illuminated panels, in contemporary floral lacquer binding

Condition

In good overall condition, a few leaves with frayed edges, one loose leaf, as viewed.

Catalogue Note

The uncommon use of delicate, paper-thin vellum in Qur'an production of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries appears to have been restricted to only those of the highest calibre, as witnessed in the present example.
