Catalogue Note
This lot presents a rare and interesting variety, both stylistically and in terms of shape and size, including Nasrid belt-fittings, mounts and even a hand-of-Fatima pendant. Each was designed using a combined geometric shape with foliate details and recognisable motifs such as the interlacing knot and quatrefoil design that are characteristic of Nasrid and later-Nasrid works. A number of comparable examples are in the Furusiyya Art Foundation (see B. Mohamed, The Arts of the Muslim Knight: The Furusiyya Art Foundation Collection, 2007, pp.123-127, nos.99-114). Another set, with a combination of filigree and polychrome enamel, is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, inv. no.17.190.962a-j.
