Catalogue Note

Shelley writes to a bookseller for titles missing from his order. A  letter of great interest in light of the influence of Euripides on the work of Shelley.

Among Shelley's debts paid by his father in May 1815 (see White, Shelley, 1:398) is a sum owed to a Mr. Laing; this is presumably the present correspondent, a bookseller then located at No. 49 South Bridge Street, Edinburgh: "In unpacking the books which arrived from Edinburgh, I discover the following have been omitted, doubtless thro' mistake: Drummonds Academical Questions, Euripides Hippolytus (Monk), Euripides Heraclidae (Elmseii), Hoorgeveen De Particulis. I should feel myself much obliged if you would send these books, whi♒ch have undoubtedly been mislaid & confounded with yours — address to me at Mr. Hookham's 12 Stone Street."
