Catalogue Note

On a petition to him signed by officers of the Bourbon Regiment in favor of an old soldier, Charles Joseph de Tremault, Rochambeau’s lengthy endorsement has agreeably certified that: "Mr de Tremault ancien mousquetaire a toujours passé pour un bon et ancien gentilhomme, que c'est assez triste que l'on doit avoir recours pour prouver sa naissance dont j'ai toujours ouï parler en si bons termes [...] le douze avril 1780".

This is only about three weeks before the French expeditionary fo🦩rce under Rochambeau sailed 🐻for America.
