Tyler") as tenth president, on paper (16 1/2 x 21 1/2 in.; 417 x 546 mm), [Washington, before 9 July 1844], accomplished in a clerical hand, countersigned by the Secretary of State ("J. C. Calhoun") and the Collector of the Port of New Bedford ("Jos: T. Adams"), also signed by a New Bedford notary public, being a pass for the ship Moctazuma, commanded by William E. Tower and laden with "Provisions, stores and utensils for a whaling voyage," embossed paper seal of the United States, embossed seal of the New Bedford notary; some minor marginal tears and chips. — James K. Polk. Engraved document signed ("James K. Polk") as eleventh president, on vellum (14 3/4 x 18 1/4 in.; 373 x 463 mm), Washington, 9 August 1848, accomplished in a clerical hand, countersigned by the Secretary of State ("James Buchanan"), being  Alfred H. P. Edwards's appointment as Consul of the United States to the Phillipine Islands; some light stains. — Zachary Taylor. Letter signed ("Z. Taylor"), 1 page (8 x 7 1/4 in.; 202 x 185 mm) on light blue paper, Headquarters, Indiana Military Department, Fort Smith, 30 June 1843, to the Adjutant General of the Army, acknowledging receipt of correspondence relative to the re-establishment of Fort Wayne.
