Hodgsdon's appointment as Captain in the Revenue Cutter Service, embossed seal of the Treasury Department; light foxing, some chips and separations at intersecting fold. — Ulysses S. Grant.  Engraved document signed ("U. S. Grant") as eighteenth president, on paper (15 7/8 x 20 3/4 in.; 402 x 528 mm), Washington, 21 March 1871, accomplished in a clerical hand, countersigned by the Secretary of the Treasury ("Geo. S. Boutwell"), being Russell R. McPherson's appointment as Assessor of Internal Revenue, First Collection District of Texas, embossed seal of the Treasury Department; foxed at left margin. — Rutherford B. Hayes. Engraved document signed ("RB Hayes") as nineteenth president, on vellum (19 1/2 x 15 5/8 in.; 495 x 398 mm), Washington, 17 March 1877, accomplished in a clerical hand, countersigned by the Secretary of the Navy ("RW Thompson") and registrar William P. Moran, being Robert D. Wainwright's appointment as First Lieutenant in the Marine Corps, engraved maritime vignettes by the American Bank Note Company at top and botton, embossed blue paper seal of the Navy Department; a few tiny holes at folds. — Lithographed document signed ("RB Hayes") one page (9 7/8 x 8 in.; 252 x 203 mm) on a bifolium of blue paper, Washington, 3 March 1881, accomplished in a clerical hand, being authorization for the Secretary of State to affix the Seal of the United States to an arrest warrant; a bit of mounting residue at top margin. — Chester A. Lincoln"), being Thomas M. Vincent's appointment as Assassitant Adjutant General with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, martial vignettes by Throop at top and botton, embossed black paper seal of the War Department.
