Catalogue Note
A complete run of Caresse Crosby's post-war transatlanic journal, featuring a varied lsit of authors and artists. Number I is one of 1300 copies, number II is one of 1000 copies. Limitations for III–VI are not specified. The impressive roster of writers includes Albert Camus, Jean-Paul Sartre, Paul Éluard, Jean Genet, Stephen Spender, Alex Comfort, Eugenio Montale, Alberto Moravia, Yannis Ritsos, Charles Olson, Gwyndolyn Brooks, Karl Shapiro, Kay Boyle, and others. Of great interest is an early appearance of Charles Bukowski, whose "20 Tanks from Kasseldown" appears in number III (spring 1946).
Artists represented include Picasso, Matisse, Giacometti, Moore, Hélion, Morandi, Cartier-Bresson, Dora Maar, Dorothea Tanning, and Ralston Crawford.
