Catalogue Note

The present work was painted after two photos taken by Schmied in Morocco, while he was on a journey following general Coutroux in his campaign in southern Morocco. It was later engraved with slight differences notably in the background, by his son Théo Schmied and published in Sud-Marocain, Grand Atlas, Anti-Atlas, according to general Catroux (cf. Danuta Cichoka, Gustave Miklos, un grand oeuvre cache, éd Fata Libelli, Paris, 2013, p.150).
