Catalogue Note

The present work was created during a time of frenzied creativity for Joan Miró, when the artist was living in Barcelona. Between 1949 and 1950, Miró was exploring two opposing angles of artistic practice: on the one hand utilising a very precise line whilst equally exploring a more spontaneous expression in other works. The present work represents the latter school of artistic investigation in its amorphous freedom of form, whilst also seeming to reference the elegantly sinuous lines of Chinese calligraphic painting.
