Catalogue Note
This watercolor is most probably one of the numerous drawings of sailboats Delacroix executed in Dieppe, in Upper Normandy, where he stayed in 1854. Drawn from his hotel window or directly in the harbor, the group of studies attests to Delacroix's fascination with the sea.
