Catalogue Note

Mill Reef was bred at Paul Mellon's Rokeby Stables in Upperville, though he spent the majority of his racing career in Europe. In 1971, his three-year-old season, Mill Reef was crowned European Horse of the Year, and was winner of both the Epsom Derby and, on October 3rd, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. The present lot is likely a commemoration of that win.
