Condition
This work is on an old if not original lining. The paint layer is stable. The work seems to have been
cleaned and restored quite recently. There is a thin break in the canvas near the upper left edge about 1
inch from the top that needs to be repaired. When viewed under ultraviolet light, it can be seen that the lighter colors particularly in the sky have received accurate and quite numerous retouches. Elsewhere, although there are a few restorations, such as in the center beneath the child of Christ and through the praying hands of the monk in the lower right, the condition seems to be above average for the period. The restoration is particularly good in this case. With a little repair to the upper left, the work should be hung in its current state.
