Description

  • cat's eye chrysoberyl, diamond, white gold
Set with a cat's-eye chrysoberyl weighing 55.42 carats, to a dome-shaped mount embellished by circular-cut diamonds, mounted in 18 karat white gold. Ring size: 10¼

Condition

Colour and Clarity: According to the Gubelin report, the cat's eye chrysoberyl is natural with no indications of treatment. Also accompanied by a special appendix stating that the cat's eye chrysoberyl has a high degree of transparency and pronounced chatoyancy which is rare for this size. The GRS report also states that the cat's eye chrysoberyl is natural, with no indications of treatment, of Sri Lankan origin, with a "golden" eye. Please refer to the reports for details. In our opinion, the cat's eye is of brownish-greenish-yellow colour, with a distinct and pronounced chatoyancy (cat's-eye effect), good clean clarity. The diamonds on the mount are about F to G colours, VS clarity. Condition: Some minor signs of wear, otherwise in very good condition.
In response to your inquiry, we are pleased to provide you with a general report of the condition of the property described above. Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report. Prospective buyers should inspect each lot to satisfy themselves as to condition and must understand that any statement made by Sotheby's is merely a subjective qualified opinion. Illustrations in the catalogue may not be actual size. Prospective purchasers are reminded that, unless the catalogue description specifically states that a stone is natural, we have assumed that some form of treatment may have been used and that such treatment may not be permanent. Our presale estimates reflect this assumption.
NOTWITHSTANDING THIS REPORT OR ANY DISCUSSIONS CONCERNING CONDITION OF A LOT, ALL LOTS ARE OFFERED AND SOLD "AS IS" IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CONDITIONS OF SALE PRINTED IN THE CATALOGUE.

Catalogue Note

Accompanied by GRS and Gübelin reports numbered GRS2013-021573 and 13067019, dated 4 February and 19 June 2013, stating that the cat's-eye chrysoberyl is natural, of Sri Lankan origin (GRS), with no indications of treatment. Further accompanied by a Gübelin appendix, stating that the cat's-eye chrysoberyl 'possesses a high degree of transparency, combined with a straight and very pronounced chatoyancy. Such a combination of properties is rare in chrysoberyl of this size.'
