Catalogue Note

This composition is an excellent example of Man Ray’s practice of re-interpreting his works to convey a new concept. Here, a photograph of a nude (circa 1929) was later embellished with hand-drawn lines in the form of a spider web, made to accompany the deluxe edition of Man Ray’s album To Be Continued Unnoticed (1948). By the later 1960s, Man Ray turned his attention to producing large-scale enlargements of a handful of his earlier photographs, in response to the new monumentality of contemporary art.
