Condition

Both dumbbells have a scattering of very minor oxidation spots. There are some light surface scratches consistent with a normal level of wear and tear, otherwise they are both in good original condition.

Catalogue Note

Man Ray alters a pair of lifting weights by making the ends into cube. The original 1944-45 object was in wood, the present edition in silver or black metal alloy. The title is a play on the words “square” (not very streetwise) and “dumb”.
