Catalogue Note
Executed in 1961, the present work is unique. Iris Clert was a ground-breaking gallerist in Paris from the 1950s to the 1970s, one of the first to show Jean Tinguely and Yves Klein. In 1961, to inaugurate her new gallery on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Clert invited 41 contemporary artists to create portraits of her, including Arman, Fontana, Matta, Robert Rauschenberg and Man Ray, who likely contributed the present work.
