Catalogue Note
A characteristic play on words between the name Pandora and “pane dorato”, Italian for “pain doré” (golden bread). Pandora develops a theme present in the 1958 Pain peint (Blue Bread). “Bread is the subject and object of Pandora, a gold-plated bronze cast of the shorter and broader Italian loaf of bread, [where] the play on words assumes the key role of the essential ‘verbal colour’.” (Schwarz, 1977, p. 198).
