the oklad of heavy gauge, the borders and halos chased and repoussé with foliate bands with collet-set cabochon turquoises, the corners with pearls, the Mother of God's robes with diamond stars centered with rubies, and her clothing with a ruby and pearl necklace and cuff, the Greek letters on the Christ Child's halo set with rose diamonds, Sazikov, Moscow, 1866, contained in glass-fronted wood shadow box
Condition
the oklad of extraordinary quality and weight; the icon surface with some losses due to the back of the icon, primarily where the turquoises are set on the borders, one larger area of loss (2 x 1 cm) at bottom, near center, probably a split from the removal of an icon
