Catalogue Note

E.S. Tryndin & Sons, Russia's first optical firm, manufactured optical and geodesic devices for more than 100 years. The firm's offices at 13 Bolshaya Lubyanka in Moscow housed an observatory on the top floor and was home to early Russian and Soviet astronomical societies. The company awarded badges and other commemorative gifts to key employees on important anniversaries; this particularly impressive badge was awarded to Aleksei Narkizovich Kirov was one of five vice-directors of the firm, in commemoration of his 25th year of work.
