These cufflinks were among the items from Fabergé to be taken on the Emperor's trip to the Imperial residence at Spala and abroad. See Chestnykh, op cit, pp. 136-137. Grand Duke Mikhail Alexandrovich, the emperor's younger brother, received a similar pair for his birthday. See Sotheby's London, 8 June 2011, lot 547.
