Condition

Repaired losses to the glazing on the nose and underside of the figure's right index and middle finger tips. Minor firing flaws. Five small areas of glazing loss: three to the underside of the figure's dress, the fourth to her navel and another to the underside of her right wrist.

Catalogue Note

Successor to Galina Ulanova as prima ballerina of the Bolshoi Theatre, Maya Plisetskaya (b. 1925) worked at the theatre for thirty years until 1990.  Known as 'the dancer who never defected', she was awarded the People's Artist of the USSR in 1956 and married the composer Rodion Shchedrin.  In 1996 she was made president of the Imperial Russian Ballet.
