A baritone with the Bolshoi company from 1925, Panteleimon Nortsov (1900-1993) reputedly sang Evgenii Onegin over 600 times. This figure is one of a series of portraits of important Russian dramatic actors and opera singers completed by Ilia Slonim around 1950.
