Catalogue Note

In 1937, the centennial year of Alexander Pushkin's death, the Soviet government organized a series of events commemorating the poet and his work.  The celebrations were extensive, with poetry readings and exhibitions held across the country, several biographical films produced, and special editions of journals and newspapers published, all with extensive commentary on his influence on the politics and culture of the Soviet Union.

Danko's contribution consisted of this model of the poet at work, surrounded by his library, which includes finely rendered covers of the St Petersburg journal Poliarnaia zvezda (Polar Star) and volumes of Faddey Bulgarin and Lord Byron.
