Catalogue Note

Vasilii Petrovich Nikolaev (1906-1941), born in Simbirsk, completed two years of study at the Urals Art Tekhnikum in Sverdlovsk before moving to Leningrad in 1924 where he studied sculpture under Alexander Matveev.  He worked at Dmitrovsk from 1930-1931 before returning to Simbirsk to work as a designer in the city museum.  On Nikolaev's career, see I.P.
