Catalogue Note

The quality of this copy of one of the key paintings of the early Soviet era, Mitrofan Grekov's 'Trubachi Pervoi Konnoi', now in the State Tretiakov Gallery, suggests that it is the work of one of the factory's most talented painters, either V.A. Sarlund, the copyist of Serov's work on lot 602, or E.A. Bessonov.  We are grateful to Natalia Sergeevna Petrova for her assistance in cataloguing this lot.
