Catalogue Note
The Sursagar is a devotional poem dedicated to Lord Krishna, written by the poet Surdas in the sixteenth century. In this painting the young Krishna and Balarama are depicted playing with their mother Yashoda. In the lower left corner is a portrait of the blind poet seated in a pavilion, clapping cymbals. For a related folio from the same series see Pal 1978, p.102, no.28.
