inscriptions

Persian benedictory couplets from Sa’di’s Bustan, Firdawsi’s Shahnameh and Daqiqi.

For a dated piece with the same couplets (not in the same sequence), see Melikian-Chirvani 1982, p.252, and for the same sequence of couplets see p.257. An almost identical dish, most probably from the same workshop and attributed to Khurasan and dated 1496-97, is in the State Hermitage Museum, St Petersburg (Komaroff 1992, pp.195-6, no.19), and a related dish sold in these rooms 22 April 2015, lot 32.
