Catalogue Note

inscriptions

al-‘izz  ‘Glory’ (twice) and al-‘azam ‘the most Great’

On the back:
‘ …. The blessed …. To the Hamzah, son of Musa al-Kazim, peace be upon him … whoever buys it or sells it …. will be [under] God’s curse [1]144 (1731-2)’

This mirror which is attributable to the fourteenth/fifteenth century was probably later endowed to an imam-zadeh in the eighteenth century as indicated by the inscription which must have been added at this date. There are numerous imam-zadehs after Hamzah which are recorded (Torshiz of Kashmar, Shiraz, Sirjan of Kerman, Istakhr of Shiraz, Qom and Rey) and also presently in Qom and Rey.
