The beautiful overlaid designs are typical of the sophisticated decoration lavished upon courtly objects of the period. Mirrors of the Mamluk period rarely come to auction, however they are few examples in Western institutional and private collections. The last one at auction sold in these rooms, 9 April 2008, lot 177. A number of beautiful examples remain in the Museum of Islamic Art in Cairo, and a gold- and silver-inlaid example is in the Topkapi Palace (Du Ry 1971, p.149).
