A rare Mamluk gilt-copper candlestick, Egypt, 14th century

Description

  • gilt copper
the base of truncated conical form encircled by two ridges, the slightly projecting shoulder with a cylindrical neck surmounted by a broad candleholder tapering to the mouth, the body decorated with engraved calligraphic cartouches between lobed roundels containing a geometric design, between thinner bands of foliate scrolls, the shoulder, neck and holder also with inscriptive cartouches

Condition

In fair condition, the body heavily eroded, particularly noticeable to interior, covered with patches oxidisation, three very minor cracks in body, few minor dents, as viewed.
