Description
- Ivory, steel, leather
the curved single-edged watered-steel blade with gold-overlaid inscriptive cartouche on the forte and foliate motifs along the straight-edge, the hilt with ivory grips and gold-overlaid decoration on pommel and cross-guard, with inscriptive lobed medallion in the centre, the leather-covered wood scabbard with steel fittings with en-suite inscriptive medallions and designs, the tip with koftgari mount with leafy scroll design
Condition
In fairly good condition, the blade with patches of oxidisation and very minor scuffs to edge of blade, the ivory probably re-attached at some point to hilt, with one small crack and slight abrasion to external edges, some of gold-overlaid decoration rubbed, the scabbard in generally good condition, opening with some wear, as viewed.

A Persian couplet, followed with an Arabic phrase composed the year Nadir assumed power and in abjad, added up to 1148 AH/1736 AD. The Arabic phrase was then used on his coins.
‘Sultan above Sultans of the World is
Nadir, the lord of happy conjunction.
In ‘The best is in what has taken place’ = (1148/1736)’
On the gold attachments:
The basmalah, Qur’an, chapter LXI (al-saff), part of verse 13 and invocations to God as:
‘O Judge of [all] needs!’
‘O Sufficient in [all] affairs!’
‘O Raised high above ranks!’
