composed of a light-green mottled jade, carved with two addorsed lion-heads, each with clear-stone inlaid eyes with gold outlines, bearing teeth, finely carved manes and collar, with a stylised leaf-form in the centre
Condition
In good overall condition, two minor chips on one ear of each lion, as viewed.

A Mughal miniature from 1627-8 which depicts a faqir meditating presents him sitting next to a small crutch or zafar takieh ('cushion of victory') with a carved jade-handle with animal-head terminals such as the present example (see Mulla Shah Badakshi Sits in Meditation, folio from the Shah Jahan Album, Mughal, India, 1627-8, Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, Smithsonian Institution, Washington D.C., inv. no. LTS2002.2.4).
