In both roundels: Harutune A. Bezjian
The patron depicted is most probably Harutune A. Bezjian, counsellor and finance minister to Sultan Mahmud II (r. 1808–39), coinciding with the dates of manufacture for the known group of tiles, also described as 'icons' to which these belong. There are two almost identical tiles in the Sadberk Hanim Museum’s collection, Istanbul, inv. no. SMH 9437–P.363, and in the S. Gonul Collection, another is in the British Museum, London, inv. no. OA 1928.10-17.1.
