Description
- Recumbent bull
- veined cream and pink alabaster, on a black slate base
- Netherlandish or German, 18th/ 19th century
Condition
Overall the condition of the alabaster is good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. The figure has been carved in sections, and several joints are visible, with some glue residue, including at: the horns and the tops of the horns, both front legs, the proper right hind leg, and the tail. It is possible that some of these sections have been reattached. There are a few minor chips, including to the proper right horn. There is veining to the alabaster throughout, consistent with the material. Some glue residue is visible where the bull is joined to the base, notably under the proper right front and back hooves.
The black stone base is in good condition, with minor dirt and wear and a few minor chips to the edges and corners.
