Condition

This tapestry is lined. It is recommended that Velcro should be added across the top for hanging purposes in the future. There are small areas of repair and weakness to the areas of light highlights, for example scattered small repairs to the façade of the building in the centre background underneath the trees, and there are weak areas with small splits opening in the light areas of the clouds in the sky in the centre background, to the right of the cornice and column of the colonnade. There are also weak highlight areas within the details of clothing, such as the cuffs and collars and to the lantern held by boy on far left, these are commensurate with the colour of dye and age of piece. There are some small areas with dark outlines, for example to moustache of standing male and moustache of kneeling male, edges of hair of some figures and along the umbrella handle. Good overall colour to all the faces, with some later highlights to white of eyes and black of pupils, for definition. This tapestry is otherwise in good overall condition. Colour generally bright and cheerful and balanced within the composition (the colours in reality are not as strong in contrast, but more natural and muted and more attractive in reality, for example the border is dark brown and not black). This is a an attractive tapestry, with balanced colour and composition, with finely woven details, and of a good size.
