Condition
Walnut relief: Overall the condition of the wood is good, with some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is a dark brown slip to the surface which has worn in areas, revealing a lighter brown at the high points. There is evidence of non-active worming throughout, leading to holes and minor losses. There are a few very minor chips, including to one of the roses on the left. There are further chips and minor losses around the outer edge.
Bronze relief: Overall the condition of the bronze is good, with minor dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age. There is some rubbing to the patina at the high points, and a few minor areas of dryness in the crevices.
The gilt and polychromed wood frames are in good condition, with wear and dirt consistent with age. There is wear to the gilding and polychromy throughout, and to the gesso ground. There are a few losses around the edges. There is splitting to the wood consistent with the material, including some open splits, notably at the top and bottom of the frame with the bronze relief.
