Condition
An elegant pair of chairs in good conserved condition. The back splats with some minor signs of movement but secure. The seat rails have been supported with later blocks. The upholstery is tired and would benefit from attention according to taste. With old marks and scratches throughout commensurate with age and use.

The gothic-fretted splats of these side chairs relate in part to a design in Thomas Chippendale's celebrated pattern book, The Gentleman and Cabinet-Maker's Director, London, 3rd ed., 1762 (pl. 14). A pair of chairs featuring similar splats sold Christie’s, The Legend of Dick Turpin, London, 9 March 2006, lot 118.
