A good quality piece by an established maker in overall reasonable condition. The grey marble top with scuffs and scratches as to be expected. The colour is a bit uneven and dry which may benefit from re-polishing according to taste and there are signs of watermarks to the sides. The pierced gallery is missing a few pins and is therefore lifting a little bit. There is a small crack to the marble under tier. With old marks and scratches commensurate with age and use.

Catalogue Note
Gervais-Maximilien-Eugène Durand was born in Paris on 30th July 1839. He worked in various parts of Paris producing almost exclusively copies of 18th century furniture. Notably from 1870 at 12 rue de la Cerisaie, from 1878 at rue Beautreillis and finally in 1900, aged 62, from rue Saint-Antoine in the old Hotêl Sully, then known as DURAND ET FILS.
Durand participated in the Universal Exhibition of 1889 where he obtained a silver medal for his furniture. A report from A Picard, one of the contemporary commentators at the time, noted that M.DURAND a skilful and modest cabinet maker, exhibits for the first time furniture of first order, which he drew and executed himself; he is in the footsteps of the masters BEURDELEY and DASSON.
