Description
- Porcelain
- 20cm., 7 7/8 in. and 21cm., 8 1/4 in. long
modelled by J. J. Kändler, painted in dark brown standing on mound bases densely applied with flowering vines, crossed swords marks in underglaze-blue to rear of bases,

Condition
One bear, has some minor repairs and chips to applied flowers, the front left paw has three claws restored.
The other bear, the front left paw has two claws chipped and other claws restored, the claws on its front right paw have been restored, typical chips.

These models are probably the ones referred to in Kändler's Taxa or work records for 1740-44 as '2 Bäre gegen einander sehend, pro 1 Stück...3 Thlr.' [2 bears looking at each other, per 1 piece, 3. Thlr.]. In the past these models have also been referred to as badgers. A pair from the Property of the Collection of Sir Gawaine and Lady Baillie was sold in these rooms on 1st May 2013, lot 167.
