Catalogue Note

Kändler modelled several hunting groups with various animals but this hunting group with a lion seems to have been designed, together with one of a lioness, circa 1758 for the French market. This model is illustrated by Albiker, 1959, no. 194. An example of the companion group with a lioness from the Property of the Collection of Sir Gawaine and Lady Baillie was sold at Sotheby's London, 1st May 2013, lot 168.
