Catalogue Note
The still unidentified Moscow silversmith with the initials DA produced a number of niello cases with views of Ivan Martiros' Monument to Minin and Pozharsky, only recently unveiled in 1818. See, for comparison, the snuffbox in the collection of Hillwood Estate Museum & Gardens (13.69) by the same maker reproduced in K. Taylor, Russian Art at Hillwood, Washington, DC, 1988.
