Catalogue Note

Nikolay Vuich had already had a distinguished military career when he was appointed to head the 19th Jagers Regiment in March 1812. He lead this regiment, whose officers gave him this handsome silver trophy, in the battles at Vitebsk, Smolensk, and Borodino. The regiment's success at Borodino led to his appointment as Lt. General. For his valiant pursuit of the enemy after the battle at Little Yaroslavets, he was awarded a diamond-set gold sword. His portrait, painted by Dawe, is among those hanging in the Hermitage's 1812 Gallery.
