Condition
This work is in good condition overall. The canvas is unlined and the painted surface is clean. There is a subtle stretcher bar impression running horizontally near the top edge with some associated craquelure. There is also fine craquelure horizontally along the lower edge, due to the stretcher and some evidence of this occurring at the two sides. There is scattered hairline cracking to the pigment in the upper ¼ of the composition. There is a minor irregularity in the join of the stretcher in the upper left corner. Upon close inspection, there are some areas of minor pigment loss at the upper turning edge. There is evidence of wear to the pigment, with a few minor losses, along the left and lower turning edges and at the corners. A few small areas of irregular pigmentation are evident in the center right of the composition, possibly due to past conservation. Under Ultraviolet light inspection, there are some scattered areas of minor inpainting which fluoresce darkly, particularly in the upper corners, vertically in the upper left near the top edge, and also in a few local places within the composition. Framed.

Catalogue Note
"Looking to Alex Katz's work, we sense the world's grandeur. Albert Einstein took solace in Nature's disarming awesomeness; Katz paints it."
