Catalogue Note

Storr's model for these is based on ancient Roman marble vases, always a favorite with aristocratic Englishman.  There is also an echo of the unusual spiral-fluted pieces, often wreathed in grapevine or foliage, produced by Thomas Heming in the early 1760s for clients such as the Earl of Bute and George III.
