Catalogue Note
Although clearly absorbing the contemporary fashion for the art nouveau, this pair of candelabra is influenced by the designs of Juste-Aurèle Meissonier (1695-1750). His exuberant designs were favored by both bronziers and silversmiths throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, notably including Linke's sculptor Léon Messagé.
