Manuscript Catalogue of Pictures at West Horsley, n.d., vol. 3, p. 74

Condition

The panel is very slightly bowed convex along the left and right edges, but is otherwise ensuring a stable support. Under ultra-violet light there are two small areas in the sand in the lower right which appear to fluoresce, however these may relate to a superficial rubbing rather than retouching. A couple of small spots visible in the sky appear to be discoloured retouchings, however they do not clearly fluoresce under U.V. light. There are a small number of tiny light abrasions in the sky. This painting is in good overall condition, and would benefit from a professional surface clean. Presented in a coved and fluted gilt neoclassical frame, with a nameplate.
