Catalogue Note
These tables, with their distinctive trumpet fluted stems, are associated with a group of furniture in the Louis XVI influenced late Georgian style promoted by the architect Henry Holland (1745–1806). His designs were in part inspired by the drawings his pupil, Charles Heathcote Tatham (1772–1842) made during a visit to Rome in the last decade of the 18th century which provided important source material for his Etchings representing Fragments of Grecian and Roman Architectural Ornaments, 1806. A related pair sold Ronald Phillips Ltd - Making Room, Christie's London, 2 July 2014, April 1997, lot 274.
