Description
- SILVER, GLASS
- 18.7cm., 7 3/10 in. wide
triangular, embossed gadroon and shell border above openwork shell supports, complete with three silver-mounted cut-glass bottles, engraved with a later coat-of-arms, supporters, motto and baron's coronet
Condition
marks and condition good apart from a small dent in the surface of the inkstand; the bottle mounts and covers are unmarked but they and the bottles are contemporary with the inkstand

Catalogue Note
The arms are those of Crewe quartering Offley and others impaling Greville for the politician John Crewe (1742-1829) of Crewe Hall, Cheshire, who was elevated to the peerage on 25 February 1806. He was married in 1766 to Frances Anne (d. 1818), only daughter of Fulke Greville, envoy extraordinary in 1776 to the Elector of Bavaria.
