Condition
The canvas has been lined. A small loss to the left of the sitters head is visible, as is discoloured, old retouchings in the sitters face and to the edge of the canvas in the upper right of the picture. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals strengthening in the background and the hair of the sitter, as well as minor flecks of retouching in the sitters clothing in the lower section of the picture.

Catalogue Note
Armine was one of four daughters of Thomas, 2nd Baron Crew and his second wife Anne, daughter and co-heiress of Sir William Airmine, 2nd Bt. In 1699 she married Thomas Cartwright of Aynho Park (1671-1748), who was Member of Parliament for Northamptonshire between 1695 and 1748.
