of baluster form with everted rim, the neck set with a pair of elephant handles, covered overall in a rich purplish red glaze streaked with lavender-blue, fitted wood stand

Literature

Crewe House, London, Inventory, 1913, p.77, in the Entrance Hall; [one of] A Pair of shaped 2-handled ware Vases covered with a mottled purple glaze, with spreading tops. 14½". high.

Condition

The rim extensively broken and restored, the broken pieces secured with tape to the interior. The foot with extensive shallow chips. The glaze with an overall subtle crackle and associated flakes, characteristic of the period. Minor surface scratches.
